How StudyOS Works.
Engine Mechanics & Guide.

Understand the cognitive principles and deterministic algorithms powering your daily study sessions.

1. The 25-Minute AI Study Session

Passive studying (re-reading notes or watching video lectures without testing) produces an illusion of competence. StudyOS enforces active cognitive retrieval:

  • Learn (10m): Review textbook notes, theorems, or formulas without checking notifications.
  • Recall (5m): Close your notes. The app prompts you to mentally reconstruct the key derivation or definitions.
  • Practice (7m): Solve an unassisted sample problem under time pressure.
  • Evaluate (3m): Grade your accuracy and log any misconceptions into the Mistake Bank.

2. Exam Readiness Algorithm Formula

Your readiness score is computed deterministically using 7 weights:

Readiness = (Syllabus × 0.30) + (Recall × 0.25) + (PracticeVelocity × 0.20) - (Mistakes × 2.5%) + ProximityBonus

If you have 5 unresolved calculation mistakes, your readiness drops by 12.5% until you re-verify those problems in a practice session.

3. Scheduling Mock & Tuition Tests

To add a tuition test or coaching mock paper:

  • Navigate to the Exams screen from the sidebar.
  • Tap the Mock & Tuition tab filter.
  • Tap the + button. Enter test title (e.g. "Kinematics Unit Quiz").
  • Select the enrolled Subject to link the test to your syllabus.
  • Pick the Date and use the native Time Picker for exact start time.

4. Categorizing Errors in the Mistake Bank

Whenever you score less than full marks in a mock test or practice quiz:

  • Open the Mistake Bank screen.
  • Add the problem text or capture a question snapshot.
  • Select the honest error cause (Concept, Memory, Calculation, Misread, or Careless).
  • When revising, filter by Concept Gap to fix theoretical misunderstandings first before exams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about StudyOS's features, privacy, and architecture.

No. StudyOS is engineered from the ground up as an offline-first system. All your subjects, chapters, flashcards, mock tests, mistake logs, and algorithms run inside your device's local Room SQLite database. You can use it in airplane mode, subway commutes, or study halls without internet.

StudyOS registers system-level exact alarms with Android's native AlarmManager. When your timer reaches zero, Android triggers a high-priority notification channel with audio alerts and vibration, ensuring you never miss the end of your study or break session even during deep sleep.

In the StudyOS Settings screen, tap AI Configuration. You can paste your own OpenAI or Google Gemini API key. The key is encrypted locally using Android Keystore and EncryptedSharedPreferences. StudyOS communicates directly with the AI API endpoint without passing through any intermediary proxy servers.

Major exams (like final board or university papers) are terminal goals with high stakes. In contrast, tuition quizzes and mock papers are diagnostic tests meant to discover weak spots. StudyOS provides a separate tab filter, exact time-of-day pickers, and direct links to the Mistake Bank so that coaching tests help you improve rather than creating unnecessary panic.

100%. StudyOS contains zero third-party analytics trackers, zero marketing telemetry, and no remote database sync. Everything remains on your device under your complete ownership.
